sharing christmas
2025
The true spirit of Christmas lives in sharing.
the story
Sharing is caring, this simple truth comes alive every Christmas in Nigeria. Beyond the festivities, the season is defined by a quiet tradition: families sharing food from one home to another. From early morning, kitchens are busy with meals prepared not just for family, but for the community. Children are sent out with wrapped plates and covered bowls, moving from house to house, carrying greetings along with food.
No plate returns empty. What is shared comes back transformed, exchanged with warmth and gratitude. Through these small acts, joy travels beyond individual homes and becomes collective.
This exchange creates a sense of belonging that defines a Nigerian Christmas. It ensures that joy is not kept within one household, but spread across the community. In these small acts of generosity, the true meaning of the season is revealed.
character
akanji
Akanji is a 13-year-old Nigerian boy who experiences Christmas through the small, meaningful moments around him. Quiet and observant, he lives in a modest neighborhood where the season is defined by shared meals, familiar faces, and togetherness rather than material gifts.
Though young, Akanji believes kindness matters. With a gentle heart and a thoughtful mind, he learns that the true spirit of Christmas lies not in what you receive, but in the warmth you give to others.
